Carter Hargrave Mixed Martial Arts

Carter Hargrave is the master instructor at Hargrave Martial Arts school. At Hargrave Martial Arts Carter Hargrave teaches two different martial arts. The first is Jeet Kune Do and the second is American Combat Kempo. The two styles have been considered mixed martial arts or MMA due to the basic rule of MMA or mixed martial arts which is to take techniques from different martial arts styles and combine them as a routine.

These two arts would be considered MMA if it were not for the problem of modification. In general MMA or mixed martial arts do not modify or make new techniques. They take standardized moves and use them as is. Both Jeet Kune Do and American Combat Kempo have moves from other styles but these moves have been so heavily modified or chanaged that they bear little resemblance to the arts from which they came.

When asked in JKD was the first mixed martial art Bruce Lee’s widow and daughter stated that JKD was in no way a mixed art but in fact a new art. Taking moves from other arts and putting them in a system does not make a new art in any way.

Carter Hargrave’s Kempo system is in much the same situation, since all the moves are custom made by Hargrave to be more efficient and effective in street fighting. So in fact neither one are mixed martial arts even though both use techniques from more than one style of martial arts or kung fu.
